siscealThe Current State of Your Discernment (15 minutes of writing)
When you envision the future of your ministry, what do you see?
I want to be enabling and caring for a loving parish community. At the moment, I am very impacted by my work in Malden and my desire mostly goes towards ministering to a similar congregation. I want to be creative together in the work of growing and maintaining a smallish group, with a sense of history and a bold future direction. I want to be able to support the lives of individuals, caring for each in their own needs.
I am attracted to the concept of using pooled and redistributed resources to help every community member and visitor, regardless of individual means and ability. I like the freedom that a smaller group (80-120) brings in regards to experimentation in worship and congregational life. I envision my team (DRE, Music Director, Committee Chairs, others) as a dynamic non-hierarchical group able to function together and make functional decisions independently and appropriately.
I imagine bringing mine and our ministry outside the church walls, to support protests and adopt parks. I imagine bringing broader community into our space through art, music, dance, celebration. I believe in utilizing our building and other resources to provide shelter, meals, childcare, and comfort for those in need - accepting all forms of need as valid, from capital poverty to emotional burnout to grief and fear and loss.
More mystically, I desire to develop my sense of self and center to a degree where I can come into a space (meeting, event, community gathering) and bring with me the power of healing, calm, guidance. I am committed to focusing on learning the power of quiet, and open listening. I want those with whom I share my ministry to know that they are safe in my presence, and that together we can improve lives to improve the world.
